Dr. Mike and Dr. Lisa take pride in providing chiropractic care to the patients of Cornerstone Chiropractic and stress the importance of total body wellness for a healthier life. Unfortunately, a common issue our patients regularly face is back pain.
Having a strong back can help keep you active and pain free. We educate our patients about how certain exercises can strengthen and correct issues that may be causing pain. We show you how you can perform corrective exercises at home; this in combination with chiropractic care helps to relieve your back pain, neck pain, and headaches.
Four Exercises That Will Help Strengthen Your Back and Relieve Pain
A few exercises that will help strengthen your back muscles include the lunge, standing cat stretch, bridge, and knees to chest stretch.
1. To properly do a lunge, stand with your hands on your hips and take a large step forward with your right foot and come down onto your right knee at a 90 degree angle. Repeat with the left foot. This exercise helps strengthen your core and lower back.
2. The standing cat stretch is also a good way to strengthen the back. Lower your body into a squatting position, arch your back, and put your hands on your thighs. Contract and pull the abs in as you round your back up towards the ceiling.
3. Also consider the bridge, which stretches the hips and stabilizes the spine. Simply lie on your back with your knees bent and squeeze your buttocks as you lift your hips, holding for 10 seconds.
4. The knees-to-chest stretch also strengthens the back. Lie on your back and pull your knees into your chest, keeping your hands behind your knees. Make sure your tailbone stays on the floor to properly stretch the back.
